FedRAMP to add higher security level

The General Services Administration will be releasing a draft baseline Tuesday, Jan. 27, for a high security level on the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP).

Once finalized, the high baseline will certify cloud service providers capable of hosting some of the most sensitive data and applications used by the federal government.

Agencies have been waiting for a high impact rating to become available through FedRAMP, as there has only been low and moderate levels since the program was established in 2011.

The draft being released Tuesday will be open for comment for 45 days before a second draft is issued.

Program managers plan to hold a second comment period on the second draft, with the final baseline expected by the end of 2015.
