The General Services Administration announced the appointment of Phaedra Chrousos as associate administrator of the Office of Citizen Services and Innovative Technologies, part of the agency's push to strengthen its role as a technology provider.

In the new job, Chrousos will focus on using new technologies to provide better service to federal agencies and other GSA customers.

"Phaedra is ideally suited for this role, given her experience founding and managing two successful companies in the digital media and healthcare industries, respectively," GSA Administrator Dan Tangherlini wrote in a Jan. 13 blog post. "I am confident that she will do an outstanding job in this new position."

Chrousos joined GSA last year as the agency's first chief customer officer. She will remain on in both roles going forward.

"I am thrilled to be leading the OCSIT team and continue GSA's efforts to provide federal employees the tools they need to deliver a high value experience to the American citizen," Chrousos said. "I am looking forward to leveraging my role as chief customer officer at GSA and the progress we've made to build future shared services around customer experience."

Chrousos is taking over for Kathy Conrad, who was serving as acting associate administrator.

"GSA plays a critical role in helping other agencies with technology," Tangherlini said. "I see this role increasing to the point where GSA is as closely associated with digital technology as it is with the public buildings or acquisition."
